What is a Sheep Dog Trial?

The sheep dog trials are returning to San Saba! The Texas Sheep Dog Association was founded in San Saba way back in 1963. Competitive trials are held all across the USA and Canada, and Texas is known as a tough proving ground for working border collies.

Receipts were reduced to 1,410 head this week due to the good rains that fell in the area. The stocker steers were $5-$8 higher with 11 steers 392 lbs at $455.00 ($1783.60) and 2 steers 598 lbs at $320.00 ($1913.60). The stocker heifers were steady with 26 heifers 453 lbs at $332.50 ($1506.

There was a great turn out for the Richland Springs Preservation Society fundraiser luncheon last Sunday. Everyone had a great time visiting with old friends and we received over $1800 of donations, to go towards our goal of restoring the bank building.

One day of warmth is not enough to satisfy my need for heat. I spent part of today preparing for another miserable week of freezing wintry weather. We do need cold; it kills bugs. It’s just not on my radar for pleasant living. I do have tiny plants raising their little heads above the dirt.

San Saba Youth Basketball

San Saba Youth Basketball had a total of 66 kids play this season, all from 1st-6th grade. Our goal is to have all our teams 1st-6th grade to play here in San Saba more next season. This season, our 1st /2nd grade teams were able to keep all their games here in San Saba.
