San Saba Garden Club February meeting features speaker Steve Boyd

SSGC met on Tuesday, February 4th, at 2 p.m. in the historical Mill Pond Park clubhouse.

Hostesses Karen Sloan (chair), Marjean Alexander, and Dianna Furlan provided refreshments presented on a Valentine- themed buffet table. Twenty members and guests enjoyed chicken salad on mini-croissants; cucumber tea sandwiches on rye; Frito corn salad; and white and dark chocolate-dipped rod pretzels sparkling with candy beads, nonpareils, and sanding sugar. Served in clear parfaits with demitasse spoons, Marjean Alexander’s variation of strawberries Romanoff was the piece de resistance, as beautiful as it was delicious.

The club was honored to have distinguished citizen and expert gardener Steve Boyd and his wife, Glenna, give a presentation on successful vegetable gardening in Central Texas. Covering topics from purchasing seeds to canning a garden’s bounty, the Boyds engaged their attentive audience by combining a slide show and informal Q&A. A former Texas Ranger, Steve is currently Captain of the Criminal Investigation Division in Horseshoe Bay.

The business portion of the meeting concentrated on the upcoming biannual SSGC Garage Sale to be held during the third week of April at San Saba Civic Center. Proceeds fund local scholarships and numerous community outreaches as well as contributing to club operating expenses. Details will be provided at a later date.

If you have gently used items you would like to contribute, SSGC will be accepting garage sale donations on April 24th from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. at the Civic Center. For assistance or more information, please contact Dianna Furlan (832)722-8303.
