Ever hear of the screwworm fly? If not, you can thank the local USDA-Animal Research Service Knipling-Bushland U.S. Livestock Insects Laboratory on route 16 just north of I-10. Ask anyone who was ranching in Texas before the mid-1960s, and they can tell you about the screwworm fly.

Receipts totaled 2,937 head. The market continued with good activity and demand. The stocker steers sold steady to $1- $3 higher with 7 steers 512 lbs at $187.00 ($957.44) and 14 steers 595 lbs at $179.00 ($1065.05). The stocker heifers sold steady.

Because of Mother

My precious mother celebrated her 90th birthday on April 28th. We will have a big birthday celebration this weekend with a host of family and friends. Her legacy is vast, including 13 children, 75 grandchildren, 115 greatgrandchildren, and multiple others who have married into the family.

28 Years Ago May 5, 1994 Mrs. Lucille Ellis was elected President of the San Saba County Historical Museum Foundation for 1994-95 at the annual membership meeting at the Museum Building.

The Tiny Cat

We were at our family’s home way out in the middle of nowhere, and to our surprise a young kitten came up on the front porch. My wife said, “Come here quick, and look at this little cat!” He was cold and hungry, so she put some cat food out on the porch. He ran off but came back quickly.

Alice in Wonder Land

Spring has sprung here in Zanesville, Ohio, and so has yellow dandylions. My neighbor, Tom, has our bank area in front of our condo's free of them because he has removed them with a golf club. Great for practicing his swing, and goodbye dandylions.
