The Richland Springs High School (RSHS) One Act Play team shattered belief barriers by making history as the first One Act Play Company to qualify for this year’s UIL State Contest. The contest was held in Austin this past weekend with 1A competition taking place on May 5th at the Austin ISD Performing Arts Center. Richland Springs led the performances of the eight finalists, taking the stage at 3:00 p.m. with scenes from Maddalena, written by the highly esteemed Don Nigro.

The RSHS company performed for a packed auditorium with grace and poise, showcasing a near-perfect performance to honor their peers, directors, and community.

The hard work and dedication shown by this group of 19 students was evident in every moment, great and small, of their final show. This incredibly difficult piece of literature was brought to life in an intricate weaving of characterizations and special effects.

RSHS One Act Play’s team obviously showed no fear in the overall execution of their chosen play. This was made clear by the overwhelming reactions and praise from a packed house.

While the glowing reviews from State judges were not enough to qualify RSHS for a top spot, these students have left a legacy with their historical, record-breaking contest season. Every ounce of perseverance, integrity, and moxie was put forth on that stage, and we are all forever changed by the story that was told, both in and out of the script.
