Briana Woolsey with the Dove Project was driving past the Stripes on West Wallace when she noticed something smoldering and actual rising smoke alongside the curb. She called the Sheriff’s office and reported her findings.

In the meantime, Briana pulled into the parking lot and poured out her soft drink onto the smoldering area at the curb. Hmmm. . .still smoldering. Then, Angie Chandler, Briana's passenger and also with the Dove Project, handed her a cup of ice which Briana quickly poured onto the area. Uh-oh. . .still smoldering. Holy Cow!

Next, Briana and Angie headed into Stripes and asked for a large cup of water and poured it onto the resistant yet unknown cause of smoldering smoke! Still smoldering. . . what??? Finally, the Dove Project ladies went back into Stripes to ask for a fire extinguisher. Brittney, the Subway manager, followed them back out with a mop bucket of water and poured it over the curb. At last. . . partial success!

Last but not least: Officer Steve Newkirk with the San Saba Police Department responded to Stripes to save the day, store, and people, by finally putting out the smoldering pollen. The cause of the fire, in our (Angie’s and Briana’s) humble opinion, was a cigarette butt that had been tossed onto some dried up, crusty pollen bunched by the curb. As the wind blew, the lit pollen was spread along the curb. Editor's Note –

2. Always save your mop water. . . just in case of a fire!

3. Never throw your cigarette butts on the ground. . . just in case of a fire!

4. Hope and pray that Briana and Angie are out on patrol. . . just in case of a fire!

5. Thank all First Responders (official and unofficial!) for their dedicated service and quick responses. . . just in case of an emergency!
