In Sweden, there used to be a widespread belief that animals could talk on Christmas Eve.My Swedish mother read me stories about this as a child, and it is true. Apparently throughout Scandinavia, folks would give their animals treats so they wouldn’t speak badly of them.

80 Years Ago December 27, 1945Pearl Harbor, T. H. S. - Sgt. George W. Horton, son of Mr. and Mrs. George W. Horton, of San Saba, Tex., is on his way home. Horton is one of 1,139 high point Army veterans whom the “Magic Carpet” is bringing back to the States aboard the USS Cresent City.
