Shirley Ann Hibler departed this earth on the morning of August 17, 2025. Shirley was born on March 16, 1940, in San Saba, Texas, the youngest of three daughters born to Pearl and John McKown. In San Saba, she grew up, attended high school, started her family, and built multiple successful businesses in San Saba and Richland Springs alongside her husband, Larry Hibler -- with a period working as an aide for San Saba ISD, where her children all attended. Throughout the years, she was privileged to touch the lives of generations of children who grew up here and frequented their local businesses along with many, many friends of her children and grandchildren.
A tireless worker with a generous spirit, Shirley devoted her life to serving the communities in and around San Saba County. She always found ways to help others and was a light of grace in the world. When she was not working, she was rarely alone. She always had a sidekick or two in the form of kids and grandkids that she chased all over, supporting everything they did. Her home was a place where everyone knew they were welcome. She spent any spare time she had enjoying a good book, and her favorite time of day was early in the morning watching the sunrise with a good cup of coffee.
She will be deeply missed by all who knew and loved her.
Shirley is preceded in death by her parents, Pearl and John McKown; her sisters: Dorothy and David Smith, and Mabel and Pat Grimes; her husband, Larry Wayne Hibler; her daughter-in-law, Regina Elizabeth Hibler; and her son, Larry Quinten Hibler. She leaves behind four children: Wade and Ellen Hibler, Gina and Scotty Woodward, Troy Hibler, and Pete and Lisa Hibler; along with 25 grandchildren and great-grandchildren, and numerous other family and friends.
Shirley served as a member of the San Saba Cemetery Association for many years, and it was a very important organization to her.
Recently, she worried about the destruction caused by the flood, knowing the limited resources they had to fix all that was damaged. Therefore, in lieu of flowers, please consider donating to the San Saba Cemetery Association.
