Samuel Allen Plumley

Samuel Allen Plumley, age 70, of Junction, Texas, passed away on Friday, March 26, 2021. Sammy, was born on August 28, 1950, in San Saba, Texas, to Louis Melvin “Bunt” and Mildred Mae (Riggs) Plumley.

Sammy married Gwendolyn “Gwen” Davis on June 5, 1971 in San Saba, Texas. They were two months shy of celebrating their 50th wedding anniversary.

Sammy developed a love for business, family, and mixing those two passions together. From starting to haul hay with his dad at eight-years-old, to managing the pecan bottoms, and working in and around the pecan industry with his father throughout his childhood, Sammy learned the value of the Christian faith, hard work, and the joy of experiencing it all with family by his side.

With refined business skills, Sammy owned and managed local businesses throughout his adulthood. Starting in 1969 as a barber, Sammy would delight others in conversation as he cut their hair. He enjoyed this journey for 16 years. In 1976, he returned to the pecan bottoms- the stomping grounds of his youth-, as he managed and harvested pecans in Kimble County. As his venture grew, Sammy started Plumley Pecan Company in 1987. Then, adding another dimension to his business story, Sammy obtained his real estate license in 1984. He became a broker and opened Plumley Realty in July of 1999. Sammy found satisfaction, fulfillment, and joy from the friendships he built while serving his community. And, continuing the path set by his parents, he maintained close family ties through his work. From co-owning the building for his barber shop with his brother; to sharing the Pecan industry with his parents, wife, and children; to selling real estate with his sons, through each of his business adventures, Sammy enjoyed his full life, working side by side with family.

Sammy was devoted to his work but took the time to enjoy a life filled with friends, family, and enthusiasm for personal projects. He never lacked for something to do, always staying busy, whether it be working in the garden, canning peaches with Gwen, sharing in conversation with a friend, or sitting down to read God’s Word. In his younger years, with a baseball bat invariably in his hand, Sammy enjoyed the days of playing baseball, softball, and coaching both sons any time he had the chance. In his later years, he enjoyed the sport by visiting the field to watch his grandchildren play and sharing stories of times when games went late into the night, when the heat was overwhelming, and when the friendships, celebration, and –the team- could not be beat. Throughout his life, Sammy embraced the outdoors, all while enjoying fishing, hunting, and raising catfish on his personal little slice of Heaven on Earth. If you knew Sammy for more than five minutes, you knew that he loved talking about the Lord. Most conversations would include politics –he always knew the latest- but would just as quickly and meaningfully circle around to his maker, Jesus Christ.

Sammy is survived by his wife Gwen Plumley; two sons: Cody Plumley, and Carter Plumley and his wife Melody; four grandchildren: Asa Plumley; Parker Plumley and wife Grayson; Ian Plumley; and Baylee Plumley all of Junction; as well as many loved nephews, nieces, cousins and in-laws. Sammy was preceded in death by his parents and his brother, Louis Ward Plumley.

A visitation will be held on Tuesday, March 30, 2021, from 5:00 – 7:00 p.m. at the Kimble Funeral Home in Junction, Texas. Memorial services will be held on Wednesday, March 31, 2021, at 10:00 a.m. at 1 Faith Community Church; officiating will be Daniel Henderson.
