Roger Dale Verette

We mournfully share that Roger Dale Verette of San Saba, Texas, passed away suddenly on Thursday, March 3rd, at the age of 76. He was born on August 11, 1946, in San Saba, Texas, to Sidney and Mildred Gatliff Verette.

Roger graduated from San Saba High School in 1965 and married his high school sweetheart in 1966. They moved to Midland, and he started working for Gulf Oil. They returned quickly to San Saba, and he worked for the LCRA and City of San Saba until he retired.

He will be lovingly remembered by his sons: Kevin and his girlfriend Ludi, and Jason and his wife Rebecca; his grandchildren: Kelan and his wife Morgan, Isabella, Noah; his greatgranddaughter, Shepley; his brothers: Sidney Verette and his wife Donni; Sammy Verette and his wife Laura; sister-in-law, Donna Cummings; brothers-in-law, Ben Cummings and Darlis Cummings and his wife JoAnn; as well as many loving nieces and nephews.

He was predeceased by his sisters, Annette Hooten and Linda Verette; brother, Bobby Jo Verette; and his parents, Sidney and Mildred Verette.

Roger was the perfect blend of crusty old cowboy and soft teddy bear. He was known for his jokes, sly smile, and always knowing where the fish would bite. He loved every child that came into his home and loved to make them giggle by being silly and playing the harmonica. He is known throughout the community as a man with integrity, who always told the truth and offered his help. Roger was a loyal friend and has often treated others like family. So many adults share that he and Sue were really like parents to them. He was a 33-degree master mason and remained active with his lifelong friends. He would run out for one thing at the grocery store and return an hour later because he’d run into someone and got telling stories. He always said he had everything he needed and never asked for anything. He loved collecting every kind of pan or cast iron you could imagine. He loved Sue’s three-layer German Chocolate Cake and had a serious sweet tooth. He was happiest with his family or outside fishing. He and Sue loved to cook and could often be found lovingly bickering about what seasoning a certain dish needed. He was active in the community volunteering as a fireman and EMS, coaching Little League and acting as president of the San Saba Booster Club. When he went anywhere, he always longed to be back home, and we know he is now reunited with the love of his life in his forever home. As Roger and Sue always said to each other, “All things happen for the best for those who LOVE the Lord.”
