Fannie Mae Proctor, 78, of Cherokee, Texas, entered into heaven January 19, 2024. Fannie Mae was born July 9, 1945, in Menard, Texas, to the union of Edgar Sylvester Hawkins and Nettie Mae Fry Hawkins.

She married Forrest Wayne Shannon, Sr. and had six children. Forrest Wayne passed away in 1978. Fannie Mae then became a mother and father to her children, overcoming and enduring through many of life’s struggles.

She married Glen Dale Proctor and once again became a wife and a maw to six more children that she loved as well. Glen passed away in 2007.

She was the epitome of a country girl, from her strong work ethic to her beautiful auburn hair. She had no problem speaking her mind or offering needed advice.

You could count on one hand how many times anyone ever out worked, out laughed, or out fished her. She completed this life’s journey and, by God, she did it on her own terms.

She was rewarded as a faithful servant and was given her angel wings to reside in heaven with all of her loved ones long since gone.

Fannie Mae is survived by her sons: Roger Proctor, David Proctor, Rodney Proctor, Forrest Shannon, Tim Shannon, Bo Shannon, and Don Shannon; daughters: Virginia Valdez, Velda O’Bier, Abby Turner, and Jodi Shannon; their spouses; a large extended family; a passel of grandkids and great-grandkids; many cherished friends; and her fierce Chihuahua, Tinkerbell.

She was preceded in death by her parents; both husbands; her son, Christopher Proctor; granddaughter, Joy Anela Gartrell; sons-in-law, David Penney, Sr. and David Davis; five brothers; and one sister.

She will be missed immensely by her large and adoring family. You can also be promised that she will be remembered by anyone whose life she ever touched.

Our Mama would be the first to tell everyone today, “This ain’t bye…See ya laters!” She would offer her sage advice to anyone who is mourning her passing, “Y’all just hang in there, like a hair in a biscuit!”

In lieu of flowers, Mama requested donations be made to St. Jude’s Children’s Cancer Research.
