Emmit Everett Skelton

Emmit Everett Skelton of Wellington, Texas, passed from this life on Friday, December 4, 2020, at the age of 83.

Graveside services took place at 3:00 p.m. Tuesday, December 8, 2020, in North Fairview Cemetery with Rev. James Ikner, retired Nazarene pastor, officiating. Arrangements were by Adams Funeral home of Wellington.

Braden Skelton, Hagen Skelton, Aison Skelton, Jacob Seale and Evy Cruz served as pallbearers.

Emmit was born June 11, 1937, to Lewis Bearon “Boss” Skelton and Myrtie Taylor Skelton of Richland Springs, Texas, where he grew up and graduated from high school in 1955.

He was drafted into the US Army in 1961. He served at Ft. Leonard Wood, Missouri, and was Honorably Discharged in 1963.

Emmit married in 1966 and moved to Corpus Christi, where they had three sons: Michael Emmit Skelton, Chad Everett Skelton, and Jonathon Davis Skelton.

His path led him back to Wellington, where he met and married the love of his life, Sue Skelton, in 1984.

He was a hard worker his whole life. He worked for many years at the Railroad Spike Plant in Wellington, and then 30 years at TxDot where he retired at the age of 70 in 2007.

Emmit enjoyed being outdoors, working in the garden, and spending lots of time in his shop. He took pride in his work and was always busy helping someone in need. His pride and joy were his grandkids. They held such a special place in his heart.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Boss and Myrtie Skelton, two brothers, J.E. and Buck Skelton and three sisters, Weida Lee, Novella and Nelda.

He is survived by his wife, Sue Skelton; three sons: Mike Skelton, Chad Skelton and wife Carrie all of Wellington, and Jonathon Skelton and wife Maria of El Paso; stepson, Spencer Seale and wife Kristy of Fort Worth; stepdaughter. Sandi Seale and Marcia Davis of Oklahoma City; four grandsons: Braden, Hagen, Aison and Jacob; five granddaughters: Briana, Dylan, Kenady, Kesley and Keeley; and seven great grandchildren.
