As I sit at my computer writing this, I can look past my monitor and watch the queen butterflies literally flocking to the blooms on Gregg’s mistflower, or the hummingbirds probing each tiny bloom on the prairie larkspur, both of which are growing just off the porch only a few feet from where I sit.

Cisco Writers Club 45 th Annual Summer Writing Contest is open!

The Cisco Writers Club 45th Annual Summer Contest opened June 1, 2021, and ends at midnight on July 31. To encourage more – and more excellent – writing, the Club awards prizes totaling approximately $1,500 each year. Thanks to generous underwriters these will be awarded at 7:00 p.m.

The truth is I could talk about recipes and food every other week for the rest of my life, but I will try to limit myself to a three-part series this time. The last two columns have been about food-package recipes, and this one will be following that same vein.

Fire destroys San Saba home; resident escapes with burns

As if things weren’t hard and depressing enough, Vanessa Patterson experienced a tragedy very few people experience in life. Last Thursday, July 1st, Ms. Patterson’s home of 30 years caught fire and was engulfed in flames noted by the San Saba VFD upon their arrival.

The new Family Dollar/Dollar Tree building looks completed on the outside, except for landscaping. Construction for this store started about two months ago and it already appears to be ready for opening soon. What a great new business to have in our county! 

Jordan Cattle Auction

Receipts totaled 1,807 head. Demand continued to be strong with good buyer activity. The stocker steers sold steady with 13 steers - 613 lbs at $157.00 ($962.41). The stocker heifers were steady with 5 heifers - 574 lbs at $148.00 ($849.52).
