Texas calf prices strengthen, cattle herd shrinking

Texas’ cattle herd numbers continue to shrink, but calf prices remain strong, according to a Texas A&M AgriLife Extension Service expert. Future cattle prices could hinge on weather and subsequent grazing availability and/or input costs, such as grain., said David Anderson, Ph.D.

Mason - San Saba March 2, 2023 Receipts totaled 2,572 head.The demand continues to be strong on a very active market. The stocker steers sold steady to $2 higher with 3 steers 520 lbs at $256.00 ($1331.20), and stocker heifers were $3-$6 higher.

Volunteers stuffing “Grub Bags” for your children

Community members gathered at the Methodist Church on Wednesday, March 1, to stuff “Grub Bags.” Many churches, organizations and individuals come together to create a bag of extra nutrition for kids on the weekends. We are thankful for the donations of goods, money and time.

Mason - San Saba February 23, 2023 Receipts totaled 4,489 head. The market remains steady on all classes of calves. Stocker steers and heifers sold steady with 7 steers 416 lbs at $266.00 ($1106.56). Feeder steers and heifers also sold steady with 10 steers 692 lbs at $203.00 ($1404.76).
