Rotary April Student-of-the-Month was awarded to Carol Cazares Tagle.Each month, a different senior is awarded. Awards are based on leadership, character, and teacher nominations. They receive a certificate and are invited to a luncheon with the Rotarians.

70 Years Ago May 12, 1955Young and old mingled at Mill Pond Lake on the first day of the San Saba Fish Rodeo, but it was Kids’ Day and those 17 and older had to be satisfied with just looking on and offering advice to the youngsters who were pulling in the hungry bass and perch.

Three-year-old Watson Grant, with the help of his PePaw Tim Grant, caught this 64 lb Blue Catfish on a rod and reel in the Colorado River. This fish broke the All-Tackle Record for Blue Catfish in the Texas Colorado River which was 44.5 lbs and was also caught in San Saba County.

Receipts totaled 5,430 head. The market continued higher this week with the stocker steers selling $8-$10 higher with 6 steers 304 lbs at $540.00 ($1641.60) and 6 steers 558 lbs at $395.00 ($2204.10). The stocker heifers were $6-$10 higher with 10 heifers 393 lbs at $520.00 ($2043.60).

Jack Blossman of San Saba was at a ball game on Tuesday night, May 6th, just having a good time enjoying the game. Little did he know his day was about to get even better.Ana Sanderson with CTTC walked up to Jack and said, “I have a $1,000 donation check for the San Saba Volunteer Fire Department.

Masonic Lodge Scholarship Recipients

Last Thursday evening, the San Saba Masonic Lodge held their annual scholarship banquet and presented a $1,000 scholarship to a student from San Saba (Winton Lackey), Richland Springs (Jacob Sweeney) and Cherokee (Joel Valdez).
