Jack Blossman of San Saba was at a ball game on Tuesday night, May 6th, just having a good time enjoying the game. Little did he know his day was about to get even better.
Ana Sanderson with CTTC walked up to Jack and said, “I have a $1,000 donation check for the San Saba Volunteer Fire Department.”
Jack was very surprised and gladly accepted the check on behalf of the SS VFD. Before she walked away, he told her, “We have to get a photo for the paper.”
I asked Jack if he knew yet how the money would be spent. He said it would be very helpful for “additional equipment rigging out our new brush truck.”
The SS VFD appreciates any and all donations. Cases of water and Gatorade are always very welcomed.
They ask that you don’t bring the water/Gatorade to a fire when they are busy putting out the fire. The best way to help ‘during a fire’ is to stay clear of the area.
Sometimes the public wants to help out during a fire, especially a challenging one. However, the best way to help is to stay clear of the fire area and let them to their job.
They appreciate your willingness to help, but they (along with other FD’s that may also be on the scene) work together like a well-oiled machine. When non-official folks try to jump in and help, it actually decreases their chances of putting out the fire and slows down the process.
You can take any water and Gatorade donations to Shahan Auto Parts, and Johnie Shahan will take care of you.
Other ways to help:
All monetary donations can be taken to City National Bank. You can drop them off in the drive-thru in an envelope clearly marked “Attention SS VFD Assistant Chief Lee Murray,” and they will take care of it for you.
The SS VFD also has a “Steak Supper” fundraiser in November on opening weekend of Deer Season.
Check back in June issues of the San Saba News & Star as we honor our Volunteer Fire Departments in San Saba County as well our as other First Responders!
They truly are heroes!
