The San Saba County Chamber of Commerce donated all of the proceeds that were raised from the 2023 Stan Weik Cancer Stomp 5K and 1 Mile Fun Run to the Never Surrender Cancer Foundation of San Saba County. The proceeds raised from the March 25th event were $1,752.43. The Chamber plans to host this event as a yearly spring benefit for the Never Surrender Foundation. San Saba Rotary Club to award $12,000 in scholarships at the Annual Honor Student Banquet

The local Rotary Club of San Saba will hold its 41st annual Honor Student Banquet to recognize academically high-achieving students from Cherokee, Richland Springs, and San Saba ISDs. All recognized students and their parents will be invited to attend May18, 2023 beginning at 6:30 p.m.

Our landlord, Jorge, loves his suns. I am sure he loves his son, Jorge Jr., as well, but I am talking about the other kind of sun. This is why there are nearly 3,000 smiling sun faces decorating the hotel where we stay when we are in Mexico. Two more were added yesterday.

The Rotary Minute

The Rotary Club of San Saba held its regular business meeting last Thursday, April 20th. President Beth Griess opened the business meeting. Tom Griess and Assistant Superintendent, Keith Owen, inducted Katheryn Robertson as our newest member. Katherine is the SSISD Director of Federal Programs.

Texas Center talk on the Texas Republic this Sunday, April 30

The public is invited to a free presentation by Dr. Donald S. Frazier on “The Accidental Republic: When Texas was an Independent Country,” this Sunday, April 30, 2023, from 2:00-3:30 p.m., at the Dietert Center, 451 Guadalupe Street in Kerrville. The event is free and doors open at 1:30 pm.

Alice in Wonder Land

Last week when I opened my door to let my chocolate Lab, Ellie, onto my enclosed porch here in Zanesville, Ohio, I saw a small snake about 12 inches long on the porch. I stomped on it and will now be aware that its Momma might come looking for it.
