Students at San Saba Elementary School submitted poems, sculptures, and posters back in the fall that were entered in the San Saba Garden Club contest. The winning entries were then forwarded to the District V Texas Garden Club. District V is comprised of 28 counties including 25 local garden clubs from Brownwood to Mexia, and then College Station, Gonzales up to Marble Falls, and then on to Mason. We thrilled to announce that three student contest winners in District V from San Saba will be advancing to State! These winning entries will be forwarded to the Texas Garden Club, Inc., which was started in 1928, and has it’s State Headquarters in Fort Worth.

The Poetry Contest topic was “Seeds, Trees, and Bees…Oh My- Celebrating the Diversity of Nature.” The winner from 3rd grade was 1st Place Karlee Dean Towery—Richardson and headed to the state level. The Honorable Mention entries from 3rd Grade include: Miracle Bartholomew, Harper Brown, Ranger Burkhalter, Daniel Garcia, Lillian Gilliam, Molly Mays, Korie McCoury, Alejandro Ramirez, and Kayden Sloan.

The Smokey Bear Woodsy Owl Poster Contest focused on preventing unwanted wildfires and helping to maintain a healthy environment. The Honorable Mention entries from 3rd grade were Harper Brown and Molly Mays.

The Sculpture Contest focused on recyclables, reused, and reduced materials. The winners from 4th grade were 1st Place Erin Eudy and 2nd Place Jay Garcia. Both are headed to the state level. The Honorable Mention entries from 4th Grade include: Bailey Huff and Wiley Murray.
