Dear Editor: Early voting for the SSISD bond starts this week and runs through May 3rd. Election day is May 7th. The bond is for $18M to build a band hall and multipurpose activity center.

We start this week anxiously waiting for the promised rain to hit the ground. Too often lately, our little area has been bypassed, left waterless and despairing. Our trees are blooming, but many will suffer from the drought conditions.

Thursday, April 7th, Congressman August Pfluger (TX-11) and Congressman Jared Golden (ME-02) introduced the DHS Rural and Remote Hiring and Retention Strategy Act of 2022. The bipartisan bill would help address Customs and Border Protection (CBP) personnel shortages in rural areas.

The city park was filled with laughing children and parents as a sea of eggs scattered around the park meant lots of Easter goodies in baskets. Many thanks to the adults who brought eggs and candy. Resurrection Sunday is a day of celebration for the Christian community.

The Texas Department of Transportation wants motorists to be aware of dangerous conditions in road construction zones after crashes in those zones killed 244 people last year. The death toll is an increase of 33% over 2020 and is the highest in 40 years.

Bob Brockman has been an integral part of this community for over 90 years. He has served the Lord faithfully and held steadfast over the years. While I was in the hospital, he received his reward and went home to be with his heavenly Father. This community will miss him.

Deadline nears to register for elections Eligible Texas voters who have not done so already have until April 7 to register to vote in the May 7 statewide constitutional amendment election, as well as any local elections for city, school districts and other local entities.
