Kenneth Kuykendall, 93, of Cherokee, Texas, was born on November 10, 1927, and passed away in his home on May 30, 2021. He was born and raised in San Saba County, the son of Warren and Eula Belle Gray Kuykendall, the youngest of their five children. The Kuykendalls came to central Texas in 1856 and the Grays arrived in 1860. They were ranching pioneers and Kenneth continued the legacy with a passion for ranching as well as developing and conserving the resources of the land.

Kenneth married Maude Ann Epperson in 1950 and shared over 70 years together on their ranch caring for cattle, horses, sheep, goats, and raising three children. Kenneth was baptized in the Cherokee Church of Christ shortly after his marriage and was an elder in the San Saba Church of Christ for over 30 years. He also served as a trustee for Cherokee Home for Children for 21 years.

Kenneth dedicated over 25 years of service to soil and water conservation and was elected President of the Association of Texas Soil & Water Conservation Districts (SWCD) following two terms as Vice President of the Association. He also served as Director of the San Saba-Brady SWCD and President of the Hill Country Association of SWCD. Kenneth was named outstanding District Conservationist in 1968. He was Secretary Treasurer of the National Association of Conservation Districts and was Chairman of the Great Plains Program when he testified before a Congressional Committee in Washington D.C. in 1979.

Aside from all of his earthly accomplishments, his greatest was his love for the Lord, whom he served with all of his heart.

Kenneth is survived by his wife, Maude Ann; two sons, Jay and Charley Kuykendall; his daughter, Ann Little; grandchildren: Curtis Little, Laura Vanek, Kimberly Studdard, Nyle Little and Nerissa Papajohn; and loving great-grandchildren.
