R. Wayne Ferguson died from COVID-19 October 18, 2020, at Baylor Scott & White Hospital in Lakeway, Texas. He was born on March 16, 1934, in Houston, the son of Fred and Veda Ferguson. Wayne served with the US Army in Alaska during the Korean Conflict. Afterwards, he earned a BBA and an MBA from the University of Texas at Austin and a PhD from North Texas State University. Wayne had a long career as a college professor focusing on entrepreneurship, finance and marketing. During his career, he taught at the University of Texas at Arlington, the University of Arkansas at Little Rock, Weber State University and held the Pryor Chair for Free Enterprise at St. Mary’s University. He was also active in providing advisory services for numerous credit unions in Texas. Wayne was a lover of travel and adventure. Sailing, skiing, and scuba diving were his passions.
In addition to his parents, he was predeceased by a brother, Paul Lehr Ferguson. Survivors include his wife, Wynne Lou; son, Mark Ferguson and wife Dewana, of Austin, Texas; three step children: Robert Ware and wife Kimberly of Georgetown Texas, Paul Ware and wife Izelda of Georgetown, Texas, and Amy Bray and husband Nigel of Richland Springs, Texas; one sister, Carolyn Tait of Houston, Texas; seven grandchildren and numerous nieces and nephews.
A celebration of Wayne’s life will be held at a later date. Those who wish to remember Wayne in a special way may make gifts in his memory to the charity of their choice. Blaylock Funeral Home of San Saba was in charge of arrangements.
