“Never a dull moment” might be the easiest way to describe James Lance Perry. Always up for a good time, he had a way of making people smile, right up until the moment he left this world on October 3, 2024.

Lance was born in San Saba, Texas, on July 30, 1970. He was the oldest of three children born to Wayland Perry and Mary Ann Kollman Perry. Growing up in Cherokee, Lance lived a simple yet adventurous life. As a child, he enjoyed the outdoors, hunting, and fishing. Being free-spirited and witty by nature, he became quite the prankster. As a teenager, he was always looking for some excitement or some form of trouble to get into. Lance graduated from Cherokee High School in 1988. He attended Tarleton State University, and after an extensive period of time, he came back and told his parents “That’s it! I’ve taught them all I can. There’s nothing left to do here.”

As a young man, Lance fell in love with the cowboy lifestyle where numerous relationships were made and still remain today. Working cattle with Lance was often more fun than work. He had a passion for fast horses and chasing wild cows, whether they needed to be chased or not.

Lance’s most cherished possessions were his children with Socorro Rocha. Savannah, Billy, Adrianna, and Jeron were the lights of his life. While living in New Mexico, they spent countless hours riding horseback and enjoying the outdoors on the ranch. Lance gravitated to most all children. He loved to aggravate them in a way that drew them closer. Most children loved him for this; however, some were scared to death of him.

For the last 10+ years, Lance and Danni Kuder dedicated their lives to his children. They enjoyed spending time as a family at numerous stock shows, rodeos, football games, and vacations. Lance was always their biggest cheerleader, standing on the sidelines play-by-play. Raising his children would become his greatest achievement.

Some things that may not have been known about Lance are that he was an avid reader, and he was extremely fast for a man with short legs. Also, contrary to his tough cowboy nature, he would faint at the sight of his own blood and needles.

Lance is survived by Danni Kuder; his children: Savannah Perry, Billy Perry, Adrianna Robertson and Tye, and Jeron Grubb; his father, Wayland Perry; his siblings: Clay Perry and Dawnya, Briana Dovi, Josh Perry, Sara Perry and Michael; his brother-in-law, Brandon Shanklin; nieces and nephews: Caylyn Perry, Kollman Perry, Baylor Jordan and Ashten, Maycie Shanklin, Tatum Shanklin, Kyson Shanklin, Walker Shanklin, and Skylar Clayton.

Preceding him in death was his mother, Mary Ann Kollman Perry; and his sisters: Patience Shanklin, Christein Dovi, and Gabrielle Perry.

Pallbearers: Mickey Hanley, Robert Wagner, Clay Perry, Jerry Bacon, Morgan Gilger, Willie Moreland, Jerry Burkhart, and Jamie Rigdon.

In lieu of flowers, the family requests memorials be made to Richland Springs Athletic Booster Club, P.O. Box 355, Richland Springs, TX. 76871 or to the charity of your choice.
