J.T. had a passion for the outdoors, a love for hunting and fishing that was instilled in him by his father. He could spend hours going through game camera photos looking for that special buck. He made sure to keep both the deer and the tank’s catfish well fed!
J.T. loved his family, friends and church family and expressed that love in many ways, serving in whatever capacity was needed. His family was so blessed to have him these many years as a special part of their lives, and he will be greatly missed.
J.T. was preceded in death by his sweetheart, Shirley Smithhart, and his parents, Jack and Jewel Smithhart. He leaves behind his daughter, Glenda Clausen and husband Byron; daughter, Sharon Gunter; daughter, Carol Smithhart; son, Douglas Smithhart and wife Kathy; cherished grandchildren: grandson, Clay Gunter and wife Traci; granddaughters: Kandi Patterson and husband Bradley, Krystal Arterburn and husband Chris, and Kelsey Dunlap; grandsons: Scott Smithhart and wife Heather, Matt Gunter and wife Kelley, and Kegan Clausen and partner Shannon Iverson; granddaughter, Lauren Smithhart; and his 14 great-grandchildren whom he adored.
The Celebration of Life service of J.T. Smithhart began with a time of visitation on Thursday, December 1st, from 5:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m. at the Blaylock Funeral Home, San Saba. The service was held Friday, December 2nd, at 10:00 a.m. in the chapel of the Blaylock Funeral Home. Internment followed at the Wallace Creek Cemetery.

J.T. Smithhart, 90, of San Saba, went to be with his Lord and Savior on Wednesday, November 23, 2022. J.T. was born on October 15, 1932, to Jewel and Jack Smithhart in San Saba, Texas.
After his completed service in the Army, J.T. worked as an electrical engineer for Bell Helicopter in Fort Worth until his retirement when he moved back to his hometown of San Saba.
