A Celebration of Life will be held on January 3rd, 2026 @ 11:00 a.m. at Shiloh Bible Church, at 5003 FM 45, Richland Springs, TX, with Christine's loving pastor Bill Slaymaker officiating. The wonderful ladies from Shiloh Church will be hosting and serving lunch immediately after the service in the Fellowship Hall.
Most knew her as Christine, though in her last years she was called by her first name Hattie. Christine was Born July 1st, 1941, to Cris and Clarice Haines in Llano, Texas. Her father Cris was a true working cowboy and raised his family on the Holman ranch in Rocksprings Texas. Christine and her little sister, Sue truly lived a ranching life, learning how to deal with hardships that come with living off the land. Though they were 'tough' in a way that the town kids missed, they never did without anything they needed and were loved and nurtured by their loving parents. Both girls were very active in the Edwards County 4-H program showing Sheep and goats that they raised themselves. Christine was very gifted in music and excelled in the Rocksprings band program and was a key athlete on the Rocksprings Girls Basketball team.
Christine graduated from High School at Rocksprings ISD, and from there traveled to Phoenix, Az to the Turf Paradise Horse Racetrack. There she was an assistant and secretary to the race announcer. After Phoenix, she traveled to Ruidoso, NM to work at the Ruidoso Downs Racetrack doing the same work.
Before she left Rocksprings though, she and her future husband Wallace Anthony had sparked up a relationship...Wallace was about to go sign up for a stint in the army, but he decided to take a shot at asking his love to marry him. He drove to Ruidoso while she was working there and asked her to marry him and she said yes...a few months later they married. July 23rd, 1960.!
Wallace and Christine followed the oil field work for many years. It was called 'Doodle-Bugging' and later Oil Exploration. Though a hard lifestyle due to much traveling, it always suited Christine as she was born an adventurer. Nothing thrilled her more than studying a map and plotting the next place to explore. Times were hard, but she always made things feel so special...rock hunting, fishing, or any adventure she could show her girls. After Wallace left the oil field, he tried his hand at farming and welding in Richland Springs, but the drilling kept calling his name. The family eventually went to George West, Texas where he bought his own drilling rig and started Anthony Drilling Co. drilling for uranium.
There were many other places they lived, but the last place they agreed to settle in was Richland Springs ...they bought some land adjoining to Christine's parents place and decided to 'settle down'.
Wallace and Christine became involved in the community and especially their church Shiloh Bible Church. They followed the Coyote football team and stayed involved in all community activities. Christine was very musically talented, and she not only played piano for Shiloh Church, but she also played the saxophone in the San Saba City Band.
Life slowed down when Wallace became ill. Christine lovingly cared for him until his death, on their 54th wedding anniversary, July 23, 2017.
The next part of her very lively story is one for the books...
Christine, or now Hattie or 'Tina' as she is called for this part, reconnected with a childhood friend, William Joe, 'Bunky' Tolliver. Bunky had recently lost his wife of 57 years and God miraculously brought them back together.... Bunky in Florida and Hattie in Texas. The next chapter of adventures started here. Bunky loved to travel and explore as much as she did and they traveled to Hattie's beloved little log cabin in Ruidoso, NM to live in the summers. Coming home to Richland Springs briefly to visit and then off again. Car loaded down with their needs and a few cats!
In 2023, Bunky and Hattie moved back to Richland Springs until her death. They were experiencing health challenges and needed to get closer to Hattie's daughter Judy for care.
They couldn't go much anymore, but they sat in their chairs at the house and relived precious memories and told stories and dreamed big still of their next adventure.
Hattie's health took a rapid decline in 2024. It kept them at home and needed extra care.
It was Judy and Janet's wish that they could live out their days in the comfort of their home. To make that possible, the girls needed help. An angel by the name of Stacey Rigdon came into their lives. Stacey made life so pleasant and wonderful. She loved to spoil them both by offering to cook anything they wanted to eat, even if one wanted something different. She not only made Judy's life easier, as she had been sole caregiver after her sister Janet's passing, but Stacey made Bunky and 'Miss Hattie' as she called her, feel like the most special people in the world. Stacey became like family and we are all eternally grateful for her. Stacey was with Miss Hattie, along with Judy and a nurse at her passing.
