Jesus Almaguer, Jr. – also known as “Al” – was called to join his creator on September 11, 2022. Jesus, Jr. was born in San Saba, Texas, on February 21, 1946, to Jesus Almaguer and Leonora E. Almaguer. He grew up in San Saba, attended their public schools, and graduated from San Saba High School in 1964. Thereafter, he graduated from Angelo State University with a BBA degree four years later.
Jesus, Jr. married Lois Soto in the mid-1960s. Their son Nicholas was born in 1967. Jesus, Jr. later married Gladys Rohan in 1977, and their son Chad was born in 1979. Jesus, Jr.’s state government career commenced in 1971 by being hired by Governor Preston Smith to administer state youth programs, including the summer Youth Conservation Corps (YCC), which was patterned after the Civilian Conservation Corps (CCC) and the Workers Program Administration employment programs, both popular during the depression era of the 1930’ s.
Jesus, Jr. had several hobbies including restoration of old vintage vehicles and tractors. His vice hobby was owning and driving race trucks, one of which finally placed first in a quartermile race in Kansas City, Missouri, in 2003.
Those preceding his death include his parents and three brothers: Ruben, Sr., John and Joe. Jesus, Jr. and his four siblings grew up in the Wallace Creek Community. Surviving Jesus, Jr. include one brother, Manuel Almaguer of the DFW area; one ex-wife, Gladys Almaguer; two sons, Nicholas and Chad (wife Stephanie) of the Georgetown/Austin area; five grandchildren: Kendall Almaguer, Legend Almaguer, Andrew Almaguer, Alyssa Almaguer and Zachery Martinez, Jr.; and several nephews and nieces.
Jesus, Jr. was considered a very empathetic individual, was loved by many, and will be immensely missed by family members and friends.
Jesus, Jr. was a Catholic, and visitation services will be facilitated by the San Saba Heritage Funeral Home at 9:00 a.m. on Friday, September 16, 2022, followed by 11:00 a.m. services at St. Mary’s Catholic Church, and the 12:00 p.m. interment will occur at the Wallace Creek Cemetery.
In lieu of flowers, donations to the American Cancer Society or to the St. Jude’s Children’s Cancer Center are recommended.
