The Bend News

Howdy y’all! I can’t start this week out with anything other than **Thank God for the rain!!!!!** We all know how the weather cycles. We go through droughts, we pray for rain. We go through floods, we pray rain stops. Every single time though, it’s as if we’ve never seen it before, or we thought we’d never see it again. I chuckle to myself when I think about the silly sayings or phrases that never change. We all act as if we’ve never heard those before either! I’m as guilty as they come; my go-to is always “There’s wet stuff falling from the sky!” There’s got to be some new jokes or one-liners out there about rain that I haven’t heard yet. Email me your favorites @countrybrandie@gmail.com - I have an idea in mind that might be fun later down the line…. pending y’alls responses.

One announcement that I have been waiting on is finally here! Congratulations are in order for Anthony Henniger and Laura Beth Hicks. The happy couple recently got engaged and plan to marry in 2023. These two are ridiculously cute, and I am excited to see what the future holds for them.

Jane Clark is home from her recent hospital stay! She is recovering, but continued prayers for strength and healing are requested.

There are a few birthdays to announce this week. Happy Birthday goes out to Lisa McGinn (August 21st); Madison Henniger (August 28th), Jon Byrd (August 28th) and River Harris (September 1).

Pete’s upcoming treatment has been delayed. Being that this particular treatment is newly FDA approved in the U.S., not all insurances have jumped on board with covering it yet. It’s a frustrating ordeal to say the least. Please continue to pray. I remind myself constantly of the following words: Cancer sucks, but God is good!

The Burn Ban is lifted (for the moment), which is nice. Our first responders, local and surrounding, have put in many hours this season. I got a lovely email from Bend resident, Bobbie Morris, who was excited to share her gratitude.

“The Bend Community would like to give a big Thank You to the fire departments from Lometa, Cherokee, and San Saba for their rapid response to a grass fire several weeks ago. The fire was started when lightning struck a pecan tree, and you might think that due to the drought there was not enough fuel to burn. However, the 10 or so acres that burned had not been grazed in several years. Without the volunteers and their fire equipment our community could have had a serious fire. Once again, THANK YOU!”
