Send in the Feds: President Biden Wants Washington in Your Business

President Joe Biden’s approval rating has fallen to a new low— recently clocking in at a measly 38%—and it is not hard to see why. Instead of making our Nation more prosperous and secure, his failed governance is leading our nation into crisis after crisis. From COVID recovery to the tragic Afghanistan evacuation, out of control inflationspikes and the border crisis. It is clear why the American people are rightfully upset with President Biden.

One would think that such staunch opposition from the American electorate would cause the President to reverse course and sit down with Republicans to develop concrete solutions to the real problems our country is facing. Sadly, we shouldn’t hold our breath. Democrats are instead doubling down with a new initiative that should outrage every small business owner and parent working to provide for their family.

President Biden’s “Build Back Better” agenda is chock-full of radical, poorly-developed policies. One of these is an egregious proposal that will give the Internal Revenue Service (IRS) new authority to spy on your personal finances. Under the President’s plan, federal agents will be able to review every transaction over $600, giving Washington bureaucrats unprecedented access to your financial data.

The president argues that tracking the bank transactions will help crack down on those not paying their taxes and only affect the ultrawealthy. Not true. In reality, this move is an unprecedented expansion of government surveillance that will turn our community banks into an arm of the IRS. If you buy your son a new computer for college, or purchase of a new set of tires for your truck—Biden’s plan will make sure the Feds get a copy of the receipt.

To make matters worse, the IRS already boasts a poor record of protecting personal data, and have a history of acting as an unfair leftist agency. Remember Lois Lerner, the former Obama-era IRS official, who weaponized the agency to attack conservative organizations? Using this tool to snoop on law-abiding Americans is not only unacceptable, but also puts those of us with conservative viewpoints at risk. Not to mention, the agency has had serious issues with the leaking of sensitive financial information.

Why should we trust the IRS with more of our financial data?

My family, and the vast majority of families across Texas’ 11th Congressional District, do not want partisan players spying on our bank accounts. I am proud to support legislation to block this proposed policy and remain committed to holding the line against this radical idea.

As Democrats continue compiling their partisan spending package chock-full of ludicrous leftist policies and crippling tax hikes, rest assured I am steadfast in fighting to keep federal agents from parsing through our financial statements. Americans deserve better.

Pfluger Responds to China’s Missile Test

House Foreign Affairs Committee Member Rep. August Pfluger (TX-11) released a statement responding to reports that China tested a nuclear-capable hypersonic missile in August:

“The reports that the Chinese Communist Party (CCP) is testing nuclear-capable hypersonic missiles under our noses are jarring. These actions are the defining moment in our competition with China and underscore the danger the CCP poses to the peace and stability of the region and the globe.

“Underestimating China’s military capabilities is a mistake with the potential to be cataclysmic. The Biden Administration must use every tool at its disposal to counter the growing CCP threat. It is imperative we make the necessary investments to equip our military with the tools, training, and resources to maintain our competitive edge. We must demonstrate peace through strength to reassure our allies and deter further Chinese aggression.”
