Phennie Elizabeth Judkins

Phennie Elizabeth Judkins passed away at home on September 8, 2021, surrounded by family in San Saba, Texas. Phennie was born August 14, 1925, in Lampasas, Texas, to Hugh Jones and Fannie Tatum. She was the sixth of 12 children.

Phennie was married to Woodrow Tyler and had one child with him. He was killed in France in service to his country in World War II. She later married Travis Preece of Austin, Texas, with whom she had seven children. Travis passed away in 1963, leaving her to raise eight children alone. In 1966, she married Ellis (Bill) Judkins, Jr., with whom she had twin girls. Bill passed away from cancer in 1992.

Phennie was a hard working woman, dedicated to her children and family. She sacrificed greatly to provide for her children and grandchildren, working as a cook at the Cactus Cafe for many years, then later working at SSISD. Probably her favorite past time was cooking for her extended family. Every year, the kids, grand kids and great grand kids would gather at "Grannie's" for holidays, Mother's Day and birthdays. Phennie loved to travel and loved flying - she visited family in Washington, Georgia and Hawaii regularly. One of her passions was sports, and she closely followed the Dallas Cowboys and the San Antonio Spurs as well as the San Saba Armadillos. She loved sitting with family and watching evening TV. Her favorite musician was Alan Jackson.

Phennie was preceded in death by her parents, three husbands, and one daughter, Janice Trump. She leaves behind a large family who will miss her greatly: Linda Feemster, Travis Preece and his partner Michelle, Jerome Preece, Darlene Mitchell Barbour and her husband John, Hugo Preece, Gaylon Preece and wife Karen, Garlan Preece and his wife Kelly, Sandra Sanford and Teena Miller. She also leaves behind numerous grandchildren, great grandchildren and great, great grandchildren, all of whom she doted on. Her presence will be sorely missed. The family will observe a private service for their mom, and a memorial for Phennie is planned for springtime.
