Barks, Battling Boredom, Birds and Heart
Hello there, my sweet San Saba loves, and how in the world have you been since last we spoke? One thing I will tell you is I have not been silent. I have tried to understand my new proclivity to bark at neighbors in their yard, barking dogs, dogs out and about, neighbor cats, squirrels, bugs, dad when he walks out the door and is pretty much my own shadow. Yeah, I have become excessively verbal Herman, and I do not think the parentals are pleased. The other day, I was asleep next to mom, heard a noise, jumped up, barked so loudly mom ended up jumping a foot off the couch. I am so glad her landing wasn’t on the hardwoods! After she calmed down, she turned to me and said…“Herman, I love you more than anything on earth. However, that being said, I can only love and spoil you if I am alive, so I suggest you stop all this sudden loud barking.” Umm, the woman does have a point, doesn’t she?
Dad was so upset because the series we have been watching, New Tricks, ended last night. He really enjoyed all the characters in it. I gave him a hug and said…“Dad, there were twelve seasons; it wasn’t like they were stingy with it. My goodness!” I mean even if you slept through six seasons, you still had a ton of television bingeing. Glass half full, dad; glass half full.” Sometimes I feel a bit sorry for dad, living with me and mom, as it must be like being a roach who found its way into a plate full of syrup. Yeah, kind of like finding a life full of wonder and joy but actually finding yourself in a sticky, soppy mess. Mom and I both are irritatingly positive.
Want to know something? When I first heard the song… ‘Home, Home On the Range,’ I asked mom if a hamburger wrote it. I wish you could have seen the look on her face. She was so puzzled she could have been a jigsaw. She swallowed her confusion and asked me how in the world I had come to my conclusion. I tilted my dachshund head and said…“Well mom, it is quite simple actually; it is my opinion the most likely candidate for being at home on a stove is a hamburger. Just think about it; how many hamburgers does dad cook, eat?” Mom smiled, hugged me and replied, “I shan’t dispute your reasoning, darling Herman.”
I made a new friend last week, Bindy Bird; she is a tiny little bird who visits me when I am out on the front porch. I love that I have human, squirrel, cat, dog, bird and imaginary friends. My heart has an open door policy and a huge welcome invitation sign hanging above it. I know there is a whole bunch of hate and ranker going in on the world today, but for me loving someone makes a lot more sense and is a lot more fun and rewarding. Personally, I would much rather spend my days using my energy creating a life that feels like a gift rather than one that feels as if I spent it giving my soul to someone I disliked, cared nothing about and cares less about me. I hope you have an amazing week until we speak again. I love you, my dear friends, and thank you for being.
