Pfluger Reports on Call with DHS and HHS Secretary

Wednesday, Congressman August Pfluger (TX-11) participated in a phone call with DHS Secretary Alejandro N. Mayorkas and HHS Secretary Xavier Becerra regarding the Biden Administration's failing immigration policies.

"President Biden's policies and rhetoric have caused chaos at the border, and the Biden Administration refuses to acknowledge and properly address the illegal mass migration they have incentivized. I joined a call this afternoon with DHS Secretary Mayorkas and HHS Secretary Becerra to express my frustrations with their dismal communication and cooperation with our community before bringing in hundreds of illegal migrant children to Midland.

"Neither of the Secretary's acknowledged the National Security risks and stresses that mass illegal migration is placing on our local communities.

"Instead, they denied that we have a problem, blamed President Trump, other countries, and the coronavirus pandemic for the surge, and insisted they know how to deal with it. The reality is that President Biden's reversal of President Trump's successful policies and refusal to enforce our laws has absolutely caused this crisis and overwhelmed our facilities.

"The dangerous situation they have created is disrespectful to the communities on the border, and now the interior of the United States, who are paying the price for their misguided decisions. Secretaries Mayorkas and Becerra stated that there are currently four sites away from the border for unaccompanied children, and they are conducting a nationwide search to identify additional sites as we brace for an even larger influx of illegal migrants. As of March 25, the Biden Administration reported more than 18,000 unaccompanied children in its custody, with numbers projected to skyrocket to 25,000 by May.

"I will continue pressing for transparency as well as a safe and secure border, and I urge President Biden to acknowledge and properly address this crisis by reinstating President Trump's successful policies, enforcing our existing laws, and reversing his dangerous rhetoric."
