We went to live with our grandparents because my dad went to fight in the Korean War. Mother received letters from him and would read them to us. But then no letters and a letter from the war department saying my dad was missing in action. My mother cried for days.
But then we got word from the War department dad was not missing and in the hospital. He had frostbite, dehydration among other things. My dad with many others had gotten cut off behind enemy lines, surrounded and they suffered severe losses. Finally, Marine units were sent in, and they cut through enemy lines and rescued my dad and others.
Years later, I met a man who was in one of those Marine units that rescued my dad.
That event reminds me of something in the Bible. All of mankind is behind enemy lines cut off with no hope. We are trapped in our sins and in the hands of the enemy, Satan. He wanted to make us suffer, hurt and destroy us.
But One came to rescue us or provide a way out. His name is Jesus, (John 10:10). He gave His life that we might go free, (Mark 9:31, 1 Peter 3:18). He did that by shedding His innocent blood on Calvary, (Romans 5:8, Titus 3:5). This week let us remember the one who made it possible for us to go free, (John 3:16, 5:24, Acts 26:18). See you in Church next Sunday.
