Happy Herman's Hideaway

I am a Lucky Dog, Too

Hello, my San Saba friends, and how has life been treating you since we last spoke? Do the bats in your belfry party in your head the moment the lights go out in your house, otherwise known as insomnia? It is a problem mom has fairly often, and sometimes I have to scream at her head telling the bats to calm down and to go to sleep! When I close my eyes to go to sleep, I usually hear Rowena, my squirrel friend, chattering in my head. I handle it by telling myself I do not feel like being nuts and start snoring right away.

The parentals and I watched the best television show on earth this past week…Lucky Dog. It is about a man named Brandon McMillian who saves dogs from a shelter, trains them and then gives them to an adoptive family. He teaches them the seven common commands: sit, stay, down, come, no, heel and off. I love watching the show with the parentals. However, the realization that I do not know a single one of the common commands makes me turn my head away from the television in utter disgust when the parentals gush over the dogs! Am I jealous? You bet! So what if they can sit, stay, not whine or bark for food, not act like insane jumping beans… are they me? Oh wow, where did that attitude come from? Excuse me, all the dogs are adorable and wonderful; I did not mean to imply they were anything less. I just knocked the potato chip off my shoulder, and I am fine now. If you have Amazon Prime, I highly recommend you sit down and stay to watch it.

The parentals put up the Christmas decorations, and I am having a very difficult time leaving them alone. You see, mom’s idea of decorating is putting up stuffed animals everywhere. Yep, we have a bunch of Snoopy dogs, Tigger’s, Pooh Bears and little elves and such. The temptation to grab them, take them to the hardwoods for a little chewing is overwhelming. Now common sense tells me if mom doesn’t want me near them, she needs to hang them from the ceiling, not put them where they are convenient for me to have access to. I don’t really understand why she thinks I have anything related to restraint…I am a dachshund.

Well, my dearest ones, I hope you have an amazing week until we speak again. Christmas is right around the corner, and we hope you are full of the Christmas spirit. We love you very much and are so grateful to have a chance to share our lives with you. Soon enough, we will be celebrating a new year, but I sure hope the parentals aren’t thinking I will be a new dachshund - because they will be thinking wrong. I will just be me…Happy Herman thanking you for being!
