Dear San Saba County,

Due to the ongoing issues with COVID-19, I have received this email from our coordinator with the Baylor Scott & White Blood Center:

"Good afternoon –

I hope this email finds you well and healthy. These past several weeks have been very difficult to navigate certainly, and I for one will be more than glad when this crisis is behind us.

"Having said that, it saddens me greatly, but I am reaching out with confirmation that your blood drive scheduled for 5/1-31 is cancelled on our calendar (I know many organizations are currently closed, so this may not come as a surprise) – in the interest of donor and staff safety. For the time being, we have reduced mobile operations, except for a very closely monitored location at the BSW Medical Center – Temple campus until the majority of the threat has passed. As donor safety has always been one of our primary concerns, we want to continue to make sure we can reliably enforce social distancing at our collection locations, as well as COVID-19 screen any donors prior to entering the location. And at this time, our operational capacity is not such that we can offer these assurances on mobile drives.

"In the interim, we are encouraging donors in the Temple area to visit BSWBlood.com to schedule an appointment either at the Blood Center within the hospital, or the mobile unit we have operating in the medical center parking lot. Appointments are STRONGLY preferred to ensure donor safety and adhere to social distancing guidelines.

"The good news is that it appears we are gradually moving as a state back to more normal operations, and I am very hopeful that by June we can resume a more regular mobile collection schedule.

"When regular operations resume, I will be reaching out to you to discuss next drive dates. I greatly appreciate you and everything you do in our community. If you need assistance in contacting any donors you may have signed up, please let me know, and my team will assist. As always, please call me if you have any questions at all!

"Take care and be well." Warmly,

Warmly,

Debra
