Wiley B. Murray American Legion Post No. 27 elected officers for the 2026–2027 year at its quarterly meeting Thursday, September 10, at the American Legion Hall. A meal of brisket, ribs, red beans and baked potatoes was served before the meeting. Twenty-four people were present for supper. Commander Jan K. Huffstetler called the meeting to order. An opening prayer was offered, the post charter was presented, and chairs were reserved in honor of Lt. Wiley B. Murray and MIA-POWs.
2026-2027 officers elected to serve were Jan K. Huffstetler, commander; Ross J. Cox Sr., adjutant and service officer; Charles K. Stephenson, first vice commander; Johnny L. Holder, second vice commander; and William Temples, sergeant- at-arms. Alan Schroeder was appointed aide-de-camp. The post received a Department Award for post retention. The Post History books have sold out except for a few remaining copies, available for $35, or $40 if mailed.
Mr. Marcus Rodriguez, new center director, was introduced and spoke briefly about his background. Kevin Aguilera, San Saba High School’s 2026 Boys State representative, described his Boys State experience.
The next meeting will be in November for Veterans Day.
Trace Temple accepts a Certificate of Commendation - Military Commitment. Trace will soon be leaving for training with the Us Army Infantry & Airborne Training.
