I love this time of year because we let our little bunch of sheep and goats in around our house. I get my morning cup of coffee and try to observe them. They love the fallen acorns and green grass under the oaks around our home. Also, my wife says, “Let them have the flowers now; it is too late.”
They hurriedly run around trying to find those fallen acorns, and, yes - Thank you Lord for the good rains you sent. A short time later, they are all laying down chewing their cud and looking very content.
Cattle, sheep, goats, and buffalo all chew their cuds; pigs and horses do not. Those contented sheep and goats remind me of something in the Bible.
Psalm 23 is a wonderful Psalm to read and meditate on. It talks about the benefits or results of letting God be our Lord. For the Lord to be our Shepherd we must have repented and confessed our sins and put our faith in Jesus Christ and what He did on the cross, (Romans 3:23, Isaiah 53:6, Romans 5:8, 1 Peter 3:18).
It is a wonderful thing to know Jesus Christ and totally trust in Him because many blessings go with it, (Ephesians 2:8, 9, John 5:24). I guess I am like those sheep and goats sitting down chewing my cud and thanking God for so much, (Ephesians 1:3, Philippians 4:19). See you in Church next Sunday.
