It's Your Decision - You Decide

Voters decide if property taxes for homeowners and businesses to be cut San Saba Central Appraisal District

Early voting is already in progress for the November 7 election. It includes Proposition 4 that could provide a property tax cut to homeowners and businesses.

The entire property tax cut package will translate to major tax savings for Texas homeowners.

Proposition 4 requires voter approval. If the voter approval is successful, the homestead exemption for homeowners would increase from $40,000 to $100,000 off the value.

Some businesses will see a limit on their appraised property values. For the first time, commercial, mineral and residential properties that don't receive a homestead exemption will see a limit on how much the appraised property values can increase.

The new cap would apply to properties like rental homes and apartment buildings that are appraised at less than $5 million. If voters approve the proposition, the appraisal district could not raise the taxable value of those properties by more than 20% each year for the next three years. This cap would expire in 2026 unless lawmakers and voters decide to extend it.

Tax Statements have already been mailed. You should have already received yours in the mail. The $100,000 exemption has been applied to qualified homeowners with the expectation that this proposition will pass.
