Gene Weldon Faught passed away on Friday, July 21, at the age of 82. Weldon is survived by his wife, Patricia Faught of Mason; daughter, Pamela Faught Kruse and husband Randy Kruse of Mason; son, James Weldon Faught and wife Amy Faught of San Saba; a brother, Thomas Faught and wife Nancy Faught of Aubrey; five grandchildren: Jessica Kruse Markell and husband Blaine Markell, Casey Andrew Kruse and wife Kelsey Kruse, Kirsten Paige Faught, John Weldon Faught, and Jacob Wesley Faught; and five great-grandchildren: Makenzie Kruse, Lainey Kruse, Everly Prentice, Rhyder Markell and Brynlee Kruse.
Weldon was born June 12, 1941, in Denton, Texas, to Andrew Brown (Pete) Faught and Imogene Jennings Faught. On June 23, 1961, he married the love of his life, Patricia Ann Adcock of Aubrey, Texas. Weldon and Pat lived the majority of their 62 years in Aubrey, Texas, raising their two children, Pam and Jim. After he retired from Peterbilt of Denton, they decided to move to the Hill Country to be near their children and grandchildren. They lived in and loved the community of Richland Springs, Texas, from 1997 until August of 2022. In August of 2022, they moved to Mason, Texas, to be closer to family.
Weldon was a natural horseman. He loved horses almost as much as he did his family. His children, grandchildren and greatgrandchildren were his greatest accomplishment in life. A close second to that was participating in the San Angelo Roping Fiesta as stock recovery for 40 years. He also donated countless hours to the Richland Springs Rodeo Association to build a facility for the youth of Richland Springs. Wherever he lived, he spent many hours driving his team around the backroads and was always thrilled to be able to haul the youngsters around in the wagon with him. That always made him the happiest. All who knew Weldon would agree he was a straight-shooting, good-hearted guy who would give you the shirt off his back to help a person or cause in which he believed. His stories about all the adventures of years of trail riding and roping were always entertaining and will be sorely missed. Weldon is smiling down from golden fields and driving his wagon and team. We will leave you with one of Weldon’s famous toasts, “here’s to you!”
A Memorial Service was held on Monday, July 24, 2023, at Shiloh Bible Church in Richland Springs, Texas, with Bill Slaymaker officiating. Interment will be private.
Blaylock Funeral Home of San Saba in charge of arrangements.
