Down Memory Lane

70 Years Ago May 22, 1952 J. M. Walker, a prominent figure in farm and ranch affairs in this county for a number of years, was named president of the board of directors of the San Saba National Farm Loan Association at a special election.

Soul Wilt

The grass needed watering again this morning. Record high temperatures and drought conditions play havoc with any lawn. We are blessed to have abundant water supply with rare times of mandated conservation. John Wayne was right in the movie, Red River, when he compliments San Saba’s plentiful water.

Doug’s Doorstep

There is a place south of where we live in Alvin, Texas, where you can go to pick your own vegetables and fruit. Cyndi and I went down there last Monday and picked green beans, zucchini, potatoes and blackberries.

Cherokee, Richland Springs show out at 1A Track/Field Meet

Members of the Cherokee High School and Richland Springs boys and girls varsity track and field teams proudly represented San Saba County on Saturday, May 14, during the 2022 UIL Class 1A Track and Field State Championships meet held at Mike A.

Receipts totaled 4,256 head. The market continued very active with good demand. The stocker steers sold $10 higher with 8 steers 364 lbs at $221.00 ($804.44) and 28 steers 557 lbs at $182.00 ($1013.74). The stocker heifers were $10 higher with 23 heifers 541 lbs at $163.00 ($881.89).
