Police Officer Jason Gann is the Employee of the Month for July. He was presented with a dedicated plaque with his name on it as well as a gift certificate to a local restaurant. He was honored at the July City Council meeting held July 14, 2026. Taking part in the presentation to Officer Gann was Police Chief Stephen Lozano and Alderman Michael Nelson.
After the presentation, the Consent Agenda Items were unanimously approved. Consent Agenda Items included minutes from previous meetings and workshops and payment of bills. Items related to the Rodeo Parade were also approved: Resolution which authorizes the City to enter into an agreement with TxDOT for the closure of Wallace Street for the Rodeo Parade scheduled for August 22, 2026 at 10:00 a.m., a well as a Resolution closing the 300 and 400 blocks of E. Wallace Street to Parking one hour prior and during the annual Rodeo Parade scheduled for August 22, 2026.
A controversial subject was discussed at the meeting.
Last month on June 24th, the Planning and Zoning Commission considered banning A/C units that hang over public walkways due to a possible safety hazard. The City Council also considered this item at a Special Called Meeting that same night. It was decided that more information was needed, and it would be discussed again at the next regularly scheduled meeting.
At the July 14th meeting, the City Council unanimously approved authorizing the Mayor to appoint the City Manager to form and appoint a Workshop group consisting of Planning and Zoning members, City Staff, City Council Professional HVAC/ engineering occupation that could provide guidance to discuss issues related to prohibiting the placement of Air Conditioning or Heating Units above the City Right of Way Public Sidewalks regarding the health, safety, and welfare of the public.
City Manager Updates
Scott Edmonson, City Manager met with Luke Van Diest, Jesse Hunt, and Scott Glaze to discuss the TWDB Grant to discuss what projects to include such as AMR Water Meters, Water Tank repairs, and North side water line improvements.
Nine houses are being demoed by Rubicon, the Mennonites will come in September to assess and start building in March or April.
The Father’s House is seeking to install an RV space and space for a shower trailer.
No updates on repairs to the Garden Club at this time; received a notice today and sent paperwork in to FEMA.
There were approximately 2,200 people via GIS data at the July 4th Fireworks per Chief Stephen Lozano.
Rodeo Parade will be on August 22nd.
Issues of permanent camping at the Nature Park were noted.
August 5th will be the first day of school.
Football and Tennis camp will be on the 27th and 29th.
A large limb was lost on the Wedding Oak Tree.
Other Reports
Code Enforcement Official Shane Moore reported that there have not been any complaints on fees being charged, in fact has been suggested we were not charging enough.
O’Reilly Auto Parts Store had a water issue but has concluded, it is underground water seeping.
Scott Glaze, Public Works Director reported that the Splash Pad at Mill Pond Park has been having problems. We sent the Water Gun off to the manufacturer, and they are going to repair the Water Gun and make it right.
