This week, I would like to put the spotlight on our own Elm Grove Volunteer Fire Department and the men and women who give their time to protect this community. Out here, we all know how important our volunteer firefighters are. When a grass fire starts, an accident happens, or someone needs help, they are often among the first to respond. They leave their own work, families, and plans behind to answer the call, and they do it because they care about the people who live here.
Supporting the Elm Grove Volunteer Fire Department is one of the most practical ways we can support our neighbors. Donations help with fuel, equipment, protective gear, maintenance, and the many everyday expenses that come with keeping a rural department ready to respond. If you are able to give, even a small amount can help. We will also include a QR code with this article so that anyone who would like to donate can simply scan it with their phone and give directly.
There are plenty of other ways to help, too. You might volunteer with the department, lend a hand at a fundraiser, donate food or drinks during a long call, or simply ask what is needed. Not everyone can fight a fire, but nearly everyone can do something to support the people who do.
The Elm Grove Volunteer Fire Department also welcomes community participation at its regular meetings and workdays. Business meetings are held at 7 p.m. on the second Tuesday of even-numbered months, and workdays are held at 8 a.m. on the second Saturday of oddnumbered months. Both are held at the Elm Grove Volunteer Fire Station, 6917 FM 765. These are good opportunities to stop by, meet the volunteers, learn more about the department, and find out how you might be able to help.
Elm Grove has always been a community where neighbors look after neighbors. Our volunteer fire department is a perfect example of that spirit. They are there for us when we need them most, and I hope we will all remember to be there for them as well.
