Confessing Sin

He messed up...sinned. He had everything that he needed and then some. However, he allowed Satan and the lust of the flesh and the lust of the eyes to take hold of him. He sinned. He broke at least three of the 10 commandments God had given to him to live by. He coveted another man’s wife. He committed adultery. He would send an innocent man to his death.

He was also known as the man after God’s own heart. When the prophet Nathan went to him, he readily confessed his sin to God and was forgiven. King David is the man I am writing about today.

In our lives, things don’t always go as we want them to. We go astray of the plans we had. David saw Bathsheba and had her brought to his palace. He committed adultery with her. She became pregnant. He brought her husband, Uriah, home and tried to get him to go to her, but he would not. Therefore, he sent a letter with him to Joab the commander of David’s army, and he was to put him in the thickest part of the battle and then withdraw from him. Uriah, Bathsheba’s husband, was dead. David would take her for his wife.

Nathan, a prophet of God, told David he had sinned. David asked God for forgiveness. Read 2 Samuel 11 and 12. Then read Psalm 32 and 51. See David’s dastardly deeds and the confession of a penitent man.

Here are a few things that you can learn from this. First, you can’t hide anything from God. You may be able to fool a lot of people, but our God knows all.

Secondly, don’t try to cover up the sin in your life as it only gets worse. There is lying, deception, guilt, etc.

Thirdly, confess your sin. David did this, and God still blessed him. There were consequences. The child Bathsheba carried died at birth. David had problems with his family, but the Messiah, Jesus, would be one of his descendants.

As we get ready to start a new year, know for sure that God cares about you. If you have never committed yourself to Him, what a wonderful time to start. Believe in Jesus, repent of your sins, confess Jesus, and be baptized to be forgiven. If you have already done these things, confess your sin to God and make new commitment to Him to obey Him and serve Him.

You can begin again! And when you give yourself to God, He will bless your life. I hope 2022 is the best year for all of us, especially as we follow the Lord. He is the One we will give an account to after we leave this earth.
