The City of San Saba is proud to welcome John Bauer as our new Chief of Police. Chief Bauer was sworn in on August 12, 2021, and will assume duties starting on August 16. The Chief’s position became vacant when long time Chief Ray Riggs resigned in July of this year.

Chief Bauer is a 1993 graduate of San Saba High School and a 1998 graduate of Texas A&M with a degree in Kinesiology. Following his graduation from A&M, he was a teacher and coach in the Dallas area.

In 2006, Chief Bauer left coaching and began his law enforcement career when he became a police office for the Plano Police Department. During his time at Plano, he was named rookie of the year in 2007 and received numerous lifesaving awards and also served as an instructor for several classes at the Law Enforcement Academy.

In 2020, he retired from the Plano Police Department to come back to the Hill Country where he took a position as a Police Officer/ Field Training Officer with the Horseshoe Bay Police Department. Chief Bauer currently holds a Master Peace Officer License through the Texas Commission on Law Enforcement.
