SS County Republican Party Update

The New Year is upon us. For those who have not yet registered but plan to vote in the Republican Party Primary on March 5th, I urge you to submit your voter registration application to the County Voter Registrar by February 5th, or you will be ineligible to vote. If you will be 65 years old on or before March 5th or you are disabled, you can submit an application for an Absentee Ballot by Mail to the County Clerk. Mark it as an annual request, and this will ensure you get a ballot by mail for the Primary, any Runoff, and the General Election in November. It is far better to have your mail-in ballot than run the risk of not being able to make it to the Polling Station to vote. Every Vote Counts!

I had the pleasure of speaking to one of our District Attorney candidates, Marie Primm, recently and I want to reinforce how critical this race is. Some may not think it is important to get to know these two candidates, Primm and her opponent, Perry Thomas, but this is the second phase of law enforcement. While the Sheriff's race may be the talk of the town, the DA's race will decide who actually prosecutes the cases the Sheriff brings to the court. Both Mrs. Primm and Mr. Thomas will be at the Rotary Candidate Forum being held on Tuesday, January 30th, in the High School Cafeteria at 6:00 p.m. Additionally, Mrs. Primm will be a guest speaker at the Rotary Luncheon on February 1st, talking about her current occupation, working for the Attorney General as one of only two Prosecutors for Capital Murder cases in the state. She will also be visiting some of our local establishments during the day to meet voters. Keep an eye out for her as she makes the rounds.

Judging by the number and size of the signs showing up, one can guess the State Representative race is also heating up. David Spiller, the incumbent, has garnered the endorsement of Governor Abbott while his opponent, Kerri Kingsbery, has been endorsed by Attorney General Ken Paxton and Agriculture Commissioner Sid Miller.

Spiller, who has been riding a wave of state-wide publicity following the passage of his Border Bill, SB4, is supported by the moderate wing of the Republican Party, including House Speaker Dade Phelan. Kingsbery has been courting and winning over the more conservative wing of the party. Both of these candidates have agreed to also be present at the Rotary Candidate Forum. I urge all San Saba voters of both parties to come out and hear all your candidates at this critical Forum. It should prove to be a very worthwhile event.
