On Tuesday, June 16, 2026, Silvestre Barco, a dedicated member of St. Mary’s parish family, was honored with the Lumen Gentium Award, (in Latin means “Light of the Nations”), presented by the Diocese of Austin during a special ceremony held at the Frank Mayborn Convention Center in Temple, Texas.

I was on staff of a large church for 5 years, and our department taught basic Christian beliefs. Our department boss, a wellknown psychologist, used to say if any nation or any family or person tries to live by the 10 commandments, they will be a lot better off than others.
