Oldest Newspaper in West Texas

The San Saba County News, founded by Colonel W.T. Melton on January 1, 1873, was the first newspaper published in west Texas. Later, another paper was created in San Saba called The San Saba News. Around 1911, The San Saba Star came to town with W.D. Cowan as Editor.

Hill Country CattleWomen's May meeting set in Llano

Sandstone B & B in Llano, Texas, will be the location of the May 17th Hill Country Cattle-Women monthly meeting. The meeting will begin at 10 a.m. for the social hour, and the business meeting will commence at 11:30 a.m. with lunch being served at approximately 12 noon.

San Saba Lodge to meet Saturday, May 7th

On Saturday, May 7th, the Lodge will hold its regular stated meeting. A meal of beef brisket and red beans will be provided by secretary and served at 6:30 p.m. Members are asked to bring complimentary covered side dish, bread, salad, or dessert.

You know how we look at older times and complain how soft people have gotten lately? We talk about our childhood full of outdoor adventures, riding in the back of the pickup and fist fighting through our childhood, camping, hunting and fishing and getting the belt when you talked back.

Performance Talent

Performance Talent became a member of the San Saba County Chamber of Commerce on Friday, April 22nd. They were welcomed with a ribbon cutting. Performance Talent offers classes in vocals, acting, guitar, songwriting, and piano.

Rural Transportation Improvement Program meetings set for May 17-19

The TxDOT Brownwood District will be conducting a virtual public meeting, along with a series of in-person meeting opportunities, for the proposed 2023-2026 Rural Transportation Improvement Program (Rural TIP).

Masonic Lodge to host annual HS Seniors Banquet

The ladies of the Order of Eastern Star Chapter 191, the Freemasons of San Saba Masonic Lodge No. 612, and the San Saba Scottish Rite Club, will host the annual Seniors Banquet on Monday, May 2nd.
