The ladies of the Order of Eastern Star Chapter 191, the Freemasons of San Saba Masonic Lodge No. 612, and the San Saba Scottish Rite Club, will host the annual Seniors Banquet on Monday, May 2nd. This is the 30th year for the annual occasion, which will be held at the Masonic Lodge Hall, just east of town. A meal of fried fish will be served with French fries, hush puppies and beans. Members are asked to please bring a covered side dish, salad, bread or desert. The honored guests are the 2022 graduating seniors of Cherokee, Richland Springs and San Saba high schools. Supper will be served at 6:30 p.m. sharp, and seniors are asked to be prompt. After the meal, a program will be presented by Mr. Johnny Clawson on the subject of “The Future and What Awaits Today’s Senior Class.”

Johnny Clawson to Address High School Seniors

Johnny Clawson was born and raised in Llano County. He graduated from Llano High School in 1965 and attended Southwest Texas State University and Angelo State University. In 1971, Mr. Clawson graduated from Angelo State with a B.S. degree. In 1969, he married Sharon Landers, his high school sweetheart, and they started their journey.

After graduation, Mr. Clawson coached and taught in the Lampasas ISD, Lockhart ISD, Rice Consolidated ISD, Mason ISD, Reagan County ISD, and Schleicher County ISD. In 1982, he received his Master Degree in Educational Administration from Angelo State. While he worked on his master’s degree, he was Athletic Director with the Schleicher County ISD in Eldorado, Texas.

The Clawson’s moved to Fredericksburg in 1983 when Mr. Clawson accepted the position of Assistant Principal at Fredericksburg High School. In 1986, he became Principal of FHS. In 1989, he received his Superintendent’s Certificate from Texas A&M University.

In 1994, the Clawson’s moved to San Saba when he accepted the position of Superintendent of Schools, serving in the capacity for 13 years before retiring in 2007. Sharon was a member of the High School Office Staff.

In 2012, he became Superintendent of Schools for four years at Brady ISD. He left that position and moved to San Angelo in 2016 to work with the (ESC) Educational Service Center for two years as an Educational Specialist. Later, he served as Interim Superintendent at Irion County ISD in Mertzon, Texas.

Add to that a strong and supportive administration and Board of Trustees and it set a foundation for educational growth and excellence in the public schools in which I had the opportunity to be a part. ”

The Clawson’s have one daughter, Aron. She lives in San Angelo with her husband, Todd Horton. The couple have two young men, Mitchell and Reece who are students at Texas Tech University.
