Sarah Harkey Hall was 48 years old in 1905 when she sat down to write the story of her life growing up in San Saba County for the benefit of her children. After her death in 1908, her book was read and passed down through the family. In the 1990s, the manuscript passed to Sarah’s great-granddaughter, Maridell Lambert Henry, who took steps to preserve the pages and with help from her family transcribed the handwritten manuscript and published “Surviving on the Texas Frontier - The Journal of an Orphan Girl in San Saba County.”
This past Saturday, June 15th, Maridell’s youngest daughter, Lisa Holloway, donated Sarah’s original handwritten manuscript, along with the newest edition of the book, to the San Saba County Historical Museum for safe keeping and sharing with the future. The Museum Board wants to thank Lisa for entrusting this family treasure to us.
