Simple Truths

1 John 3:2 “For we shall see him as he is.” There’s something about seeing Jesus that causes the Christian to look heavenward. Psalm 12:1,2 gives the reason: that’s where our help and supply for every need comes from. “I will lift up mine eyes unto the hills, from whence cometh my help. My help cometh from the Lord, which made heaven and earth.”

For the Christian family, the loss of a dear loved one is only a temporary separation. It’s as though they have moved to a new city and are now awaiting our arrival. The pain of that separation is not removed, but it sure is lessoned when we know that there’s coming a day when we’ll be re-united again in that land that is fairer than day. The closer it gets, the more excited we should be. Jesus said in John 14:1-6 “Let not your heart be troubled…” Every person who has put there faith and trust in Jesus Christ has a place prepared for them by Jesus himself, and someday will move from here to there. It could be this very day, and it could happen suddenly and without warning in the moment, in the twinkling of an eye. Oh, what a day that will be, when my Jesus I shall see. Our text reads, “We shall see him as he is.”

The Bible says “To be absent from the body is to be present with the LORD” and what a wonderful thought to know that the very instant our Christian loved ones leave this body, they are in the presence of Jesus the Savior. They have already seen Christ in all his glory, majesty and splendor, not because they were some super saint down here on earth, but because they had put their faith and trust totally in the finished work of Christ on the rugged Cross of Calvary. Someday, every eye shall see him and he’ll not be a suffering Savior on the cruel tree, but the King of Kings and Lord of Lords, the ruler and sustainer of the universe and eternity. There will be a day when we will not only see Christ in all of his Glory, but we’ll see and hold all our saved, departed loved ones.

Once a year, the Watson family gathers for a family reunion. We gather around food and fellowship and laughter. Oh how I look forward to that, but there’s coming another reunion one of these days, when the joy will never end, and the fellowship with loved ones and Jesus will never end. Wouldn’t it be a tragedy if somebody in our family is not there because they refused to accept Christ’s invitation? The greatest gift we can give to our loved ones is the gospel of Jesus Christ. He said “Come unto me all ye that labor and are heavy laden, and I will give you rest.” Jesus said, “I am the way, the truth and the life, no man cometh unto the father, but by me.” He also said, “I am the door, by me if any man enter in, he shall be saved.” If you have never been saved, trust Christ now by faith.

A friend, who is already in heaven wrote a song about that great reunion. It goes like this: Someday I will go to a family reunion, where pure waters run free and where Jesus will be. What a glorious time at that family reunion on heavens bright shore, praising God evermore.

The saints of all ages will be at that reunion, all colors of faces, from the world and it’s races, what a glorious time at God’s family reunion, praising God evermore on eternity’s shore.

There is no way that the human tongue can utter, nor the human, finite brain comprehend, what our God has prepared for them that love him.
