Simple Truths

The subject last week was, “The Word of God is quick, and powerful.” In this article, I want to continue that line of thought concerning the Word of God, but I want to use Psalm 12:6, 7 as my text. Hear these words from God’s Word in regards to its preservation: Psalm 12:6, 7 “The words of the Lord are pure words: as silver tried in a furnace of earth, purified seven times. 7. Thou shalt keep them, O LORD, thou shalt preserve them from this generation, for ever.”

All who read these short articles notice that I use only the KJV Bible, and it is not only here, but in all the preaching, teaching and memorization at our Church. It seems to work lots better when everybody is reading the same words during the lesson. It cuts down on the confusion that different words and arrangement of words in the verse causes. If we read in unison, we are all reading the same words, which make it easier to be understood. That’s my personal conviction.

God has preserved his Word for us, and it is perfect. The text says it is purified seven times. The number seven is Gods number for completion; he created everything and rested on the seventh day because his work was completed, and perfect: “And God saw everything that he had made, and, behold it was very good.” When the Word of God was finished after about 1500 years and over 40 different writers, all moved by his Spirit, God presented to man his perfect, infallible, inerrant, living, and breathing word of God to direct him in his life. When it was finished and bound together as a whole, all the other parts, signs, and revelations ceased. We have the Word of God, and it is all we need for all our faith and practice. 1 Corinthians 13:8- 10 says “Charity never faileth: but whether there be prophecies, they shall fail; whether there be tongues, they shall cease; whether there be knowledge, it shall vanish away. 9. For we know in part, and we prophecy in part. 10. But when that which is perfect is come, that which is done in part shall be done away.” That which is perfect is the preserved cannon of Scriptures. In Matthew 4:4, it is recorded, “But he answered and said, It is written, Man shall not live by bread alone, but by every word that proceedeth out of the mouth of God.” Jesus also said in Matthew 24:35 “Heaven and earth shall pass away, but my words shall not pass away.” Jesus himself promised the Word would be preserved. I can depend on what I read in the Bible being absolutely true without error or mistake, or discrepancy.

“Purified seven times.” It is a Holy book, and we can never escape its piercing or blessing truths.
