SCV Camp Holds Black Powder Competition in San Saba County

On Saturday, October 5th, John Anderson of Williamson County took the first-place trophy at the Black Powder Turkey Shoot hosted by the Sons of Confederate Veterans (SCV) Saltworks Camp No. 2353 of Lampasas. The runner up was Gary Lehmkuhler of Copperas Cove. Thirty-five people were in attendance with 18 shooters competing. The event was held at C S Farm in San Saba County and raised nearly $1,000 for future projects such as monument restoration, cemetery clean-up and historical preservation.

The SCV was established in 1896, and is charged with preserving the history and legacy of the Confederate veteran. The organization is the direct heir of the United Confederate Veterans, and the oldest hereditary organization for male descendants of Confederate soldiers. Today, the SCV continues to serve as a historical, patriotic, and non-political organization dedicated to ensuring that a true history of the 1861-1865 period is preserved.

The next event the camp will participate in will be at Ft. Parker near Mexia on Saturday, October 26th. The next stated meeting will be Tuesday, November 19th, in Lampasas with location TBD. For more information, contact the Camp Commander, Michael Oliver at 1(254) 432-0322
