The Drumstick

I still laugh when I think about it. It was his first Thanksgiving, and a big part of our small family was there. It has been a family tradition that we would try to get together on Thanksgiving. As we were all sitting there enjoying the good food and visiting, we noticed something was wrong with our young son. He wasn’t enjoying himself and he was letting us know it (by crying). My favorite piece of the turkey is the leg, and I had almost finished mine and about all that was left was the bone so I thought I would try giving that to him. He wasn’t too interested in the leg until I dipped it in some mashed potatoes and gravy. There he sat in his highchair, a happy camper enjoying the food, family and other things (like a dry diaper). I think he enjoyed it because he had turkey, gravy, and mashed potatoes all over his face. He even went to sleep in his highchair.

It is one thing to eat your turkey, another to enjoy it and another to thank God for it. I hope we can do all three. My son was very blessed to be born into a Christian home with love and material blessings just as we are very blessed to live in this country. Let us try to be truly thankful this Thanksgiving (Colossians 3:15, Psalms 100:4, 1 Chronicles 29:6-14). See you in Church next Sunday.
